Indium Recycling from Waste Liquid Crystal Displays: Is It Possible?

The utilization of valuable properties waste and their reuse as raw materials is an imperative the circular economy. Waste electrical electronic equipment (WEEE) a significant source materials, certain metals, rare earth elements that are basis for highly sophisticated IT production. It estimated production WEEE in Europe 2019 was 16.20 kg/inhabitant, while quantities continue to grow at rate 3–4% per year. liquid crystal displays used televisions, laptops, desktops, other devices represent share contain 0.12–0.14% crystals whose main ingredient indium—tin oxide. In order investigate determine methods conditions indium recycling from LCDs, laboratory research conducted. influence temperature, particle size, retention time different media with without ultrasound treatment monitored provide efficiency leaching. analysis results showed 98% leaching achieved granulation samples 10 × mm temperature 40 °C/40 min solution H2O:HCl: HNO3 = 6:2:1 under conditions, aqueous alkaline same did not show efficiency. This study can be practical reference LCD panels.
